About Telavi State University
Telavi State University was founded on
the basis of Pedagogical Institute in 1999, which was established in 1939.
It was named after the Great Georgian
pedagogue and public figure Jacob Gogebashvili in 1940. On the 60th year of
anniversary it was awarded the status of the State University. The University is
the autonomous higher educational institution. The teaching goes on the
budgetary and non- budgetary sectors with the full-time and extra-mural modes of
delivery on the native language – Georgian.
In 1998 the University Board got the
university educational conception according which the university moved to the
two staged system: Bachelor’s level ( 4 years), Master’s level (2 years) and
Doctorate ( 3 years) The first stage gives the general university education to
the graduated, the second stage-the Master’s academic degree the third – Ph.D.

Four
educational campuses, open and close sport grounds, swimming pool, cafeteria,
art and cultural centers occupying seven Hectares in the greenish environment of
the University.
The university library serves the students learning and the
science researches with more than 200 000 books.
The collection of scientific works of the University
professor- teachers and post graduate students are edited and published in the
university every year.
The University newspaper has been published periodically
since 1977. The University has the regular relationships with Tbilisi higher
educational institutions and Georgian research institutions of the Academy of
Science, where the preparation for the researching degree takes place.
