Within the framework of the PROVE project, funded by the European Commission, a 12-hour training course on the modern teaching methodology “Dilemma-Based Learning” was held for the academic staff of Telavi State University.

The training took place on 2 and 3 July at Telavi State University and comprised a total of 12 hours over two days.

The aim of the training was to promote the implementation of modern student-centered teaching approaches in higher education and to introduce effective teaching practices that foster students’ critical thinking, ethical reasoning, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.

During the training, participants were introduced to the theoretical foundations of dilemma-based learning, practical tools, and opportunities for integrating this approach into academic courses. Particular attention was given to the use of real-life and simulated complex situations as an effective means of promoting students’ active engagement and developing their skills in reasoned argumentation, collaboration, and reflection.

An important part of the training was dedicated to the VaKE (Values and Knowledge Education) methodology, which combines values-based education with knowledge construction. Through practical activities, participants explored opportunities for applying VaKE across different academic disciplines and worked with specific tools designed to foster students’ critical thinking, ethical reasoning, argumentation, collaboration, and decision-making skills.

The training was conducted in an interactive format and included active discussions, practical exercises, group work, and the exchange of experiences. Participants demonstrated a high level of interest and engagement and, at the conclusion of the training, expressed their interest in participating in similar practical and interactive training activities in the future.

The training contributes to strengthening modern, student-centered teaching practices at Telavi State University and supports the professional development of its academic staff.
